Obenaltendorf Shoe

Obenaltendorf, a bog find of a pair worn by a man from more than a century ago. The originals are quite fragmented, but there is still enough left to be able to tell what the shoe looked like in some detail. They are typical for what is generally termed a Germanic type of shoe because of the markedly asymetrical pattern with the tabs and loops of the outer side distinctly longer than those on the inner side of the shoe.

There are a few other finds that show similar style and decorative features, not only from bogs and up north, also from the Saalburg area e.g. The dating is roughly 2nd - 4th century AD.
